What happens on your first call?
When you first reach out, you speak one-on-one with a Listener.
There’s no rush, no pressure—just a chance to get to know each other and explain what Echo is all about.
The Listener covers essential ground rules, checks if you’re in immediate danger (in which case they’ll guide you to emergency services), and gauge how best to support you going forward.
What happens on a private Echo call?
Private one-on-one’s are confidential calls for your listener to check-in with you, and/or to process difficult memories - especially at night.
What you discuss with your listener, will never be brought up in a group call.
-
The first few calls are for you and your listener to build trust and understand your needs.
Once he understands your needs, he will find the right group for you.
Entering a group with your listener ensures you know at least one person in there, making it easier to speak.
-
In your one-on-one check-ins, provide your listener with feedback on your group or normal ongoing support.
They listen to you and brainstorm any difficult memories or moments you have outside Echo.
-
Repeated negative memories keep our mind racing, blocking sleep.
Listeners are there to walk through those thoughts and break the cycle that wrecks sleep.
Over time, the gradual emotional release will induce a deeper rest.
What happens on a group Echo call?
In each weekly call group you may hear other men’s experience. This breaks down the negative self-beliefs of blame that keep painful memories in place.
There are six to seven members in each group:
Five or six other callers with a similar lived experience,
One Echo trained listener.
-
In your first few group calls, each man gets the floor to talk.
We often discuss lighter topics like sports, hobbies, or day-to-day life.
This breaks down initial walls and reduces the feeling of being an “outsider.”
-
By the fourth session, most men share memories or regrets they never shared before.
Repeatedly telling one’s story in our groups loosens the hold of painful memories.
Over time, the intensity of negative self-beliefs or ‘voices from the past’ often fades.
-
Members (and the Listener) may ask questions or share what’s helped them navigate similar struggles.
This encourages each man to consider new perspectives.
Continuously, the painful thoughts lose their power, as there’s a whole group reminding you of your strengths.
How Echo differs from traditional services
Detect More Projections
In Echo’s group setting, unconscious projections naturally manifest during interactions with others, for example:
You may misinterpret a neutral comment as criticism, revealing patterns from past relationships.
In a one-on-one setting this cannot be guessed or fully observed by a therapist as they require group dynamics to surface.
Deeper Personality Insight
Group interactions provide a richer understanding of yourself, which might go unnoticed in one-on-one sessions:
For example, moments when you freeze in arguments or become awkward suddenly with close ones.
When the session ends, therapists often miss multiple important insights about how you interact socially.
Unique Social Feedback
From our group feedback, you can quickly recognise the impact of your actions and adapt them in a social setting:
This enables live learning, making the process more dynamic and applicable to real-world relationships.
With multiple perspectives you can overcome past self-defeating beliefs faster, forming more great relationships.
Echo’s unique approach
Voice-only
Sitting across from someone to reveal a difficult moment feels intense. Voice-only takes the pressure off.
Non-diagnostic
We do not provide any formal diagnosis. We do not need you to have a diagnosis. Come as you are, and redesign your story.
Non-prescriptive
We do not give you advice. We believe your voice matters most. You decide how to express yourself. You decide how to set your boundaries.
Peer community-led
Meet others that have been through what you have been through. These men know what it’s like, so have no difficultly believing you.
